“O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved! How long shall your iniquitous and grossly offensive thoughts lodge within you?” (Jeremiah 4:14, AMPC). God’s appeal begins with the heart; before our outward conduct can truly change, our hearts must first be cleansed. He calls His people to deal with the source of their actions—their inner thoughts, desires, and motives.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:1, 2). The scope of Christ’s provision is universal. His saving work is sufficient for everyone, regardless of who they are or what they’ve done.

“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]” (Romans 12:2, AMPC). The phrase “external, superficial customs” emphasizes that many cultural influences focus on outward appearances rather than godly character. As Christians, we’re called to live by God's standards rather than by society's changing opinions.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). The “spirit of fear” refers to being controlled by timidity or shrinking back from doing what we know is right. Instead, God provides us with strength, love, and sound judgment.

“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:5-7). Wisdom is one of life’s greatest treasures and should be pursued with determination. Biblical wisdom involves more than knowledge; it’s the ability to apply God's principles in everyday decisions.

“And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25). Jesus instituted this observance to help us remember the significance of His sacrificial death and the love it demonstrated. We practically apply this by taking time to reflect on His sacrifice with gratitude, allowing that appreciation to strengthen our faith and motivate us to live in harmony with his teachings.

“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love” (Galatians 5:6). Outward religious rituals or status don’t determine a person’s standing before God. What truly matters is faith that is demonstrated through love.

  • August 18

“We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Our love for God is a response to His love for us. He took the initiative by showing His love before we ever sought Him.

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17). This is a powerful reminder that God is the ultimate protector of those who serve Him. The reference to “every tongue” highlights that harmful accusations, criticism, or false judgments can be overcome through God's justice and truth.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21). Our words have significant influence and can either build others up or harm them. God’s choice of the words “death and life” illustrates the far-reaching consequences of what we speak.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you”   (Matthew 5:11, 12, NIV).

When we choose to live the word of God and apply his precepts to our lives, we can expect opposition from others. We may even have to endure hurtful remarks from family, friends, or loved ones. This is a sign that the world sees us in the same light as the prophets of God, and even Jesus himself.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2).

God wants success and prosperity for us, not just financially, but in every area of our lives. Most people think in financial terms only, but financial blessings aren’t possible without spiritual prosperity first.

“The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand” (Genesis 39:2, 3, NKJV).

God made Joseph prosperous and successful because Joseph fully obeyed him. This was true in the Old Testament, and it remains true today. True wealth and prosperity only come through right-standing with God.

“And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself” (1 Kings 2:3).

To prosper is not only to achieve financial success, but also to succeed in all areas of life. If we obey God’s word and his supernatural laws, he will keep his promise to us in this area.
